The Japan They Didn't Expect

The Japan They Didn't Expect

Every traveller imagines Japan a little differently.

For Anisha and Piyush, it was their first journey together to Japan after getting married. They wanted to experience the country's famous cities, but they also hoped to discover a side that most visitors never get to see.

Instead of joining a group, they chose Beyond Tokyo to create a private journey designed entirely around them.

That gave us the freedom to build something personal.

The best of both worlds

Tokyo excited them. So did Kyoto and Osaka.

They wanted to experience the energy of Japan's biggest cities, the famous neighbourhoods and everything that makes people fall in love with the country on a first visit.

But they also wanted balance.

Between the busy days were quieter mornings, mountain scenery, traditional towns and moments where Japan felt slower and more personal.

That balance is something we always try to create.

One special request

Before the journey, they had one request.

They wanted to experience deep snow.

Not just a little snowfall.

The kind of winter landscape that feels almost unreal.

Because the journey was private, we could design something especially for them.

Instead of taking them to the places everyone already knows, we chose Chichibu, a quiet mountain region that offered exactly the experience they had imagined.

It became one of those unexpected moments that quietly defines an entire trip.

The best journeys are often shaped by one simple request.

Travel built around people

Private journeys are different because they begin with the traveller, not the itinerary.

Every recommendation, every stop and every small decision can be shaped around what matters most to the people travelling.

For Anisha and Piyush, that meant experiencing both the excitement of Japan's famous cities and the quiet magic of places they would never have discovered on their own.

More than a holiday

Looking back, it is not only the cities that stand out.

It is the contrast.

Bright city lights followed by quiet mountain mornings. Busy streets followed by untouched snow. Famous places balanced with experiences created just for them.

That is what a well-designed private journey can do.

It still shows you the Japan you have always wanted to see.

But it also introduces you to the Japan you never knew existed.
