We set out after seeing hydrangeas at Tsubosaka-dera on Instagram. A few trains and a bus later, we found a temple disappearing into the clouds — and an unexpected connection to India.
From Ganesha and giant stone Buddhas to sleepy Takatori, a deserted bamboo grove, Street Fighter and an evening at Kashihara Jingu, this turned into one of those days where Japan kept surprising us.
